Ouranoupolis, which means ‘city of heaven', is on the west side of the Mount Athos prong. It is the gateway to Mount Athos for pilgrims who visit the monastic republic.

Ouranoupolis is about 130 km from Thessaloniki and 97 km from Poligiros and the beautiful village has about 800 inhabitants.
